Tonight, the Bharrat Jagdeo Demerara River Bridge is illuminated in lavender to mark World Cancer Survivors Day and Cancer Survivors Month.
This symbolic lighting initiative, undertaken in collaboration with The Lotus Cancer Initiative Inc., serves as a tribute to those who have survived cancer, a remembrance of those we have lost, and a message of support for individuals currently undergoing treatment, as well as their families, caregivers, and healthcare professionals.
As the universal colour for all cancers, lavender represents hope, resilience, and unity.
The Ministry of Health remains committed to working with non-governmental organisations to promote cancer awareness, early detection, and access to quality care for all Guyanese.
